“Surprise, Shock and Gospel: Re-Interpreting the Parables of Jesus” is the theme of the 2019 Bible Institute June 21-23 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. Father George Smiga, STD, will be the keynote speaker. This nationally known author and lecturer in Scripture and homiletics is a priest of the Diocese of Cleveland. He is on the faculty of St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology in Wickliffe, Ohio and writes a monthly column for Living With Christ and contributes regularly to Give Us This Day. Father Smiga will present these lectures throughout the weekend: "The Elusive Parable;" "The Parables of Mark;" "The Parables of Matthew;" "The Parables of Q;" and "The Parables of Luke." In addition to his talks, the Bible Institute also includes prayer, small group discussion and Mass. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 21 with the opening session at 7 p.m. The weekend concludes after the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, June 23. The number of participants is limited. The registration deadline is Friday, June 7. To register, download and return the registration form with fees to the address provided.
The $125 registration fee includes three meals on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday, but does not include housing. Participants may reserve on-campus rooms in Fletcher Hall at the time of registration. Single occupancy is $40 per night and double occupancy is $50 per room ($25 per person) per night.
