Bishop issues clergy changes Nov. 2
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor announced the following pastoral appointments, Oct. 31, 2024, for the Diocese of Little Rock. Effective Nov. 2, 2024: Rev. Martin Dara, appointed associate pastor of St. Joseph Church in Fayetteville and Our Lady of the Ozarks Shrine in Winslow. He is relieved of his responsibilities as associate pastor of the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock; and Rev. Manikyaraju Kotha, appointed associate pastor of the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock. Pray for souls in purgatory on All Souls' Day
The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, or All Souls' Day, is the feast day dedicated to praying for all those who have died and are in purgatory. Souls in purgatory "have not yet been purified" in order to enter heaven. That said, the Church teaches those in purgatory will get to heaven eventually and our prayers help them get there. "All who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven." ... Bishop to celebrate All Souls' Mass Nov. 2
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate the annual All Souls' Day Mass at Calvary Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2. It is located at the corner of Wright Avenue and South Woodrow Street in Little Rock. Get driving directions from your location. The main entrance is off of Charles Bussey Avenue. Mass will be followed by the blessing of graves and praying the rosary. All are invited. All Saints' Day celebrates ultimate victory
All Saints' Day is the feast on which we celebrate those who have died and gone to heaven. Catholic teaching holds that all people in heaven are saints. This includes all saints, not just those who are known to us (those canonized by the Church). We, the faithful on earth, celebrate their triumph and seek to learn from their example in what it means to live holy lives. We also ask them to pray for us so that we go to heaven as well. Create living memorial at Calvary in spring
Each fall, families and friends are invited to purchase daffodil bulbs to be planted on the graves of their loved ones in Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock. That way, by spring, the bright yellow flowers become a living memorial to all those who have been laid to rest in the historic cemetery. For a minimum donation of $20, cemetery staff will plant a group of five daffodils on the grave of your choice. (Five-bulb groups cannot be split.) New students join spiritual direction class
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor celebrated a bilingual Mass to welcome new students to the School of Spiritual Direction Sept. 6 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. Classes to begin the second year of the program followed the Mass led by director Father Daniel Velasco, pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Souls Church in Little Rock. Weekend-long classes are held monthly from September to May as part of the three-year formation program sponsored by the Diocese of Little Rock.
