November is National Adoption Month. The Children's Bureau, within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, funds the National Adoption Month initiative each November through a partnership with AdoptUSKids and Child Welfare Information Gateway. This year’s theme is: “Conversations Matter," which focuses on listening to "what the young person has to say, what their goals are, and how they feel about adoption. ... Youth are the experts of their own lives, so let them partner with you in permanency planning and make decisions about their life." More than 122,000 children and teens are in foster care waiting to be adopted in the United States. To learn more about adoption from foster care, see this FAQ from AdoptUSKids. In Arkansas, visit Project Zero or Children of Arkansas Loved for a Lifetime (CALL), which reaches out to churches, including Catholic churches, statewide to help members become foster or adoptive parents.
