In February, the Catholic Church in the United States partners with other organizations to celebrate National Marriage Week (Feb. 7-14) and World Marriage Day (Feb. 9) to give us "an opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and the family." This year's theme is “Love Beyond Words.”
World Marriage Day "honors husband and wife as the foundation of the family — the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life," according to its sponsor Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WWME).
The Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth offers several resources to bishops, priests, deacons, married couples and lay men and women to help celebrate and live the great gift of married life, including an at-home marriage retreat, prayers for couples, Fortifying Couples and Families video series, preaching resources, podcasts, daily tips and more.
"Almighty and eternal God, You blessed the union of married couples so that they might reflect the union of Christ with his Church: Look with kindness on them. Renew their marriage covenant, increase your love in them, and strengthen their bond of peace so that, with their children, they may always rejoice in the gift of your blessing. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen."
