Trains Parishes in Faith Community Nursing

Faith Community Nursing (FCN) is a recognized specialty practice for registered nurses approved by the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Practice emphasizing health and healing within a faith community. Mission and Goals

The mission of Faith Community Nursing ministry is to "promote health with an emphasis on the spiritual component where an individual’s awareness of God’s love and care enhances healing and lessen isolation and loneliness," explained Deborah Meiklejohn, MNSc, RN in a Faith Community Nursing Foundations Course webinar for Catholic Charities USA. She said the goals are to:

• Care of the sick and frail by meeting physical, spiritual, mental and social needs.
• Visit both during and after hospitalization as requested.
• Promote healthy lifestyles through wellness education.
• Support spiritual, social and emotional needs — prayer, support groups.
• Assist in accessing healthcare services and resources.
