Each year, bishops in dioceses worldwide personally welcome those going through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process during the Rite of Election, a special service held at the beginning of Lent. The annual Women's Religious Discernment Retreat has been rescheduled for March 4-5 at St. Joseph Center in North Little Rock. It was scheduled for January but had to be cancelled because of inclement weather. Single women ages 16 to 35 who want to learn about and discern a vocation to the religious life are welcome to attend. This free event will include talks by sisters from religious orders in Arkansas, Mass celebrated by Bishop Anthony B. The Catholic Church in the United States wants Valentine's Day to be about more than candy and flowers. It wants to offer couples support and encouragement for building strong and lasting marriages. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor announced the following pastoral appointments for the Diocese of Little Rock on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017. Effective March 7: Rev. George Sanders relieved of his responsibilities as pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Glenwood. He remains pastor of St. Mary of the Springs Church in Hot Springs; Rev. Salvador Vega-Alvarenga appointed pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Glenwood. This is in addition to his current responsibilities as pastor of St. Martin Church in Nashville.
