Bishop greets initiates at Rite of Election
Each year, bishops in dioceses worldwide personally welcome those going through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process during the Rite of Election, a special service held at the beginning of Lent. This year, Bishop Anthony B. Taylor welcomed catechumens and candidates at rites held in four locations across Arkansas: Blessed Sacrament Church in Jonesboro on March 2; St. Vincent de Paul Church in Rogers on March 4; Christ the King Church in Little Rock on March 5; and St. Edward Church in Texarkana on March 6. ... Bishop appeals to governor on executions
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor wrote the following letter to Gov. Asa Hutchinson March 1, 2017, asking him to halt the executions of eight men scheduled for April in Arkansas. I am writing you today to ask you to commute to a sentence of life without parole the sentences of Don Davis and Bruce Earl Ward (scheduled to be executed April 17), Ledelle Lee and Stacey Johnson (scheduled to be executed April 20), Marcel Williams and Jack Jones, Jr. (scheduled to be executed April 24), Jason McGehee and Kenneth Williams (scheduled to be executed April 27). ... Women invited to discern God's call
The annual Women's Religious Discernment Retreat has been rescheduled for March 4-5 at St. Joseph Center in North Little Rock. It was scheduled for January but had to be cancelled because of inclement weather. Single women ages 16 to 35 who want to learn about and discern a vocation to the religious life are welcome to attend. This free event will include talks by sisters from religious orders in Arkansas, Mass celebrated by Bishop Anthony B. Strengthen marriage this Valentine's Day
The Catholic Church in the United States wants Valentine's Day to be about more than candy and flowers. It wants to offer couples support and encouragement for building strong and lasting marriages. In February, the Church partners with other organizations to celebrate National Marriage Week, Feb. 7-14, an event that concludes with World Marriage Day on Feb. 14. "Catholic schools are integral to our nation's character — serving the common good, strengthening local communities, and building the Kingdom of God on earth," said Bishop George Murry, chairman of the U. Bishop announces pastoral appointments
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor announced the following pastoral appointments for the Diocese of Little Rock on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017. Effective March 7: Rev. George Sanders relieved of his responsibilities as pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Glenwood. He remains pastor of St. Mary of the Springs Church in Hot Springs; Rev. Salvador Vega-Alvarenga appointed pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Glenwood. This is in addition to his current responsibilities as pastor of St. Martin Church in Nashville.
