In addition to fasting and abstaining on Good Friday, the Diocese of Little Rock is inviting people to “fast” from digital media by turning off their cell phones and televisions on April 14. Silencing phones and televisions for all or part of this holy day will give God a chance to call your heart, especially if it is coupled with at least one hour spent in silent prayer while disconnected from the outside world. Eight Arkansas death row inmates are scheduled to be executed from April 17-27. They are: Don Davis and Bruce Earl Ward, April 17; Ledelle Lee and Stacey Johnson, April 20; Marcell Williams and Jack Jones Jr., April 24; and Jason McGehee and Kenneth Williams, April 27. After the United States Supreme Court chose not to hear a challenge to the state’s death penalty statutes, Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge and Gov. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate the diaconate ordination Mass of Jeff Hebert and Tuyen Do at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock. The 67th annual Diocese of Little Rock Catholic Youth Convention will be held May 12-14 at Robinson Center and the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. This year's featured speaker is Jackie Francois Angel, a renowned Catholic speaker and musical artist. She will speak to the theme: "He is the Way." In addition to the keynote speaker, the conference will include skits, praise and worship music, prayer, workshops, small group discussion, Mass, a dinner banquet and dance.
