Bishop Anthony B. Taylor announced the following pastoral appointments Monday, Nov. 18, 2019 for the Diocese of Little Rock: Effective Nov. 14: Rev. Eugene Luke, OSB, relieved of his responsibilities as pastor of St. Joseph Church in Paris, and as sacramental minister of St. Anthony Church in Ratcliff to return to Subiaco Abbey. The seventh annual Catholic Schools Scholarship Appeal kicks off Nov. 16 to assist schools statewide in raising funds for need-based tuition assistance. This year, applicant families qualified for $3 million to assist 765 students. Parishes and schools have committed $1.6 million in assistance, leaving $1.4 million still needed and thus the need for this appeal. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor addressed a letter to previous donors thanking them for their contributions that allowed 48 students to receive tuition assistance ranging from $500 to $1,000 per family in 2018. ... More
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor announced the following pastoral appointments Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, for the Diocese of Little Rock. Effective Oct. 28: Rev. Balaraju Akkala, appointed associate pastor of St. Stephen Church in Bentonville, and administrator of Blessed Stanley Rother Church in Decatur. He is relieved of his responsibilities as associate pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Rogers; Rev. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor released the following statement Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, regarding federal changes to immigration rules. "Depending on the outcome of litigation cases, beginning Oct. 15, the Trump administration will deny individuals seeking legal status for those deemed to likely become a public charge. To determine whether an immigrant will possibly become a public charge in the future, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or consular officers will look at applicant’s age, health, family status, assets, financial status, education and skills. ..." ... The Diocese of Little Rock recognized eight teachers and staff members for their service during the 83rd annual Professional Day for Teachers at Christ the King School in Little Rock on Friday, Sept. 27. Lou Trusty was not present, but was honored for working 50 years at Subiaco Academy. The Diocese of Little Rock will host its one-day Junior High Youth Rally Sunday, Nov. 10 at Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock. This year’s theme, "Rescued to Find Ourselves," will be presented by Catholic comedians and musicians Caitie Beardmore and Michaela Gafke, also known as “Sister Mary Rose” and “Sister Maria Stella,” of Nun and Nunner. This one-day event, which will also include praise and worship, games, skits, lunch and Mass, is open to youth in grades 6-8. The cost is $40 a person. Scholarships are available. ... More
The 32nd annual Life Chain Sunday will be held Oct. 6. It is always held on the first Sunday of October during Respect Life Month. Life Chain brings people together in a "peaceful and prayerful public witness" to form a line on sidewalks in cities across the United States and Canada to end abortion. More than 1,500 cities are expected to participate. Participants hold signs that say: "Pray to End Abortion" or "Adoption: The Loving Option" while they quietly pray together for up to 90 minutes as cars pass by.
