Dc. Nelson Rubio to be ordained Dec. 16
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will ordain Deacon Nelson Rubio to the priesthood at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock. A reception will follow the Mass in McDonald Hall. The night before, on Friday, Dec. 15, a holy hour to pray for him and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Cathedral. Weekend for Life to be held Jan. 20-21
High school youth are invited attend the 2018 Weekend for Life (formerly known as Weekend Extravangana) Jan. 20-21 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. This overnight lock-in focuses on right-to-life issues from a youth perspective. It is held the night before the annual Mass and March for Life in Little Rock. It begins on Saturday night and includes a speaker, praise and worship music, prayer, skits and dance. St. Nicholas Partners is an annual Advent appeal to raise money for the ministries of Catholic Charities of Arkansas (CCA). Examples of what a donation can do include buying medicine for a patient of the Westside Free Medical Clinic, assisting a victim of domestic violence or providing a Bible to an inmate seeking guidance. All the ministries of CCA provide services to the most poor and vulnerable among us. Give back to retired religious on Dec. 2-3
The annual Retirement Fund for Religious collection will be held Dec. 2-3 in the Diocese of Little Rock. Coordinated by the National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO), the appeal benefits 32,000 elderly Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests whose religious congregations lack adequate retirement funding. Last year, the Diocese of Little Rock contributed $154,723 to the collection. Catholic Charities help after 2017 disasters
After years of having no significant hurricanes, storms came one after another causing extraordinary damage in 2017. Through it all, Catholic Charities organizations were on the scene to provide assistance and help with long-term recovery. The spring floods in Arkansas were the prelude. Catholic Charities of Arkansas established a case management office in Pocahontas as a base of operations. This office, staffed by Faye Spurlock, worked with long-term issues involving flood survivors and continues to help restore people to their new normal even to this day. ... More
Immigration office gets grant to help youth
Catholic Charities Immigration Services — Springdale recently received a grant from the Denver Foundation to help children receive citizenship through Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). To qualify, a child must be: an immigrant; younger than 18; living with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or without any immigration status at all; and live with only one biological parent or without both biological parents (Minors with a stepfather or a stepmother could still qualify.).
