Bishop Anthony B. Taylor issued the following letter to be read at all Masses, Oct. 16-17, 2021, for the opening of the diocesan phase of the synod in the Diocese of Little Rock: To the people of the Diocese of Little Rock. Last month Pope Francis announced a process of reflection leading up to a meeting of the Synod of Bishops to take place in Rome in October of 2023. The diocesan Hispanic Ministry Office will host its Encuentros de Promoción Juvenil # 29 (Encounters of Youth Promotion) weekend for single, men and women ages 18-27 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock Nov. 11-14. Encuentros de Promoción Juvenil (EPJ) is a Catholic movement for youth to evangelize their peers to accept the Gospel, live their vocation and take on leadership roles in Christian groups in their communities. The Junior High Youth Rally returns Nov. 14 after being canceled in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be held Sunday, Nov. 14 at Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock. This year's theme, "Strengthen Each Other in the Truth," will be presented by Catholic speaker Maggie Craig. She holds a master's degree in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. This one-day event, which will also include praise and worship, games, skits, lunch and Mass, is open to youth in grades 6-8. The cost is $40 a person. Scholarships are available. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate the 2021 Red Mass at noon, Friday, Oct. 1, at Christ the King Church in Little Rock. This event is sponsored by the St. Thomas More Society of Arkansas, which is a Catholic organization for attorneys, judges, law professors and others working in the legal profession. The Mass is celebrated each year to seek God's blessing and guidance in the administration of justice. The 2021 Bishop McDonald Memorial Golf Classic will be Monday, Oct. 18, at the Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village. After a year hiatus, the golf tournament returns for its 26th year to offer 40 teams a round of golf and opportunity to support Catholic Charities of Arkansas (CCA). CCA provides adoption, immigration and refugee resettlement services, free medical care, rent and utilities assistance, natural disaster response casework, legislative advocacy, prison ministry and resources to assist in parish outreach. Each September a church in Arkansas is chosen to benefit from One Church: Unite Arkansas in Faith and Mission. This year’s partner is St. Andrew Church in Danville, a small, rural mission in Yell County. The church was built in 2006 and was able to buy a two-story office building across the highway in 2013 for faith formation classes and retreats. Unfortunately, much of the 7,850-square-foot building, called St. Francis Parish Center, is unusable. The Senior High Youth Rally returns Oct. 10 after being canceled in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be held Sunday, Oct. 10 at Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock. Catholic speaker, worship leader, podcaster and producer Taylor Schroll will speak on this year's theme: "Strengthen Each Other Through Hope."
