Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate the 35th annual Diocese of Little Rock Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Mass at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock. During the Mass he will present the Daniel Rudd Award to a black Catholic who is active in his or her parish and community during the Mass. Daniel Rudd was a former slave who lived in Marion, Arkansas, and started the first National Black Catholic Congress. He published the first black Catholic weekly, the American Catholic Tribune, in 1886. He died in 1933. This award was last presented. ... More
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will lead the Diocese of Little Rock in its annual Eucharistic Procession for Life and Mass for Life Sunday, Jan. 16 to mark the 49th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions that legalized abortion in the United States in 1973. The observance begins with the Eucharistic Procession for Life at 10 a.m. in the plaza in front of the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. Aby Abraham, IMS, relieved of his responsibilities as pastor of St. Mary Church in Paragould and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Walnut Ridge to return to India due to a delay in the renewal of his visa; Rev. The Women's Religious Discernment Retreat returns in 2022 after being canceled in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be held Jan. 7-8 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. Single women ages 16 to 35 who want to learn about and discern a vocation to the religious life are welcome to attend. This free event provides insight into the vocation to the religious life as it is lived through the religious of our diocese. St. Nicholas Partners is an annual Advent appeal to raise money for the ministries of Catholic Charities of Arkansas (CCA). Examples of what a donation can do include buying medicine for a patient of the Westside Free Medical Clinic, assisting a victim of domestic violence or providing a Bible to an inmate seeking guidance. All the ministries of CCA provide services to the most poor and vulnerable among us. High school youth are invited attend the 2022 Weekend for Life Jan. 15-16 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. This event returns after being canceled in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This overnight lock-in focuses on right-to-life issues from a youth perspective. It is held the night before the annual Mass for Life in Little Rock. It begins on Saturday night and includes a speaker, praise and worship music, prayer, skits and dance. This year's keynote speaker is Julia Holcomb, who will share her story about being the 16-year-old girlfriend of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. ... More
The annual Retirement Fund for Religious collection will be held Dec. 4-5 in the Diocese of Little Rock. Coordinated by the National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO), the appeal benefits thousands of elderly Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests whose religious congregations lack adequate retirement funding. Please give to those who have given a lifetime. Last year, two religious communities in the Diocese of Little Rock received financial support from the Retirement Fund for Religious.
